Most doctors choose a practice based on family, weather, and incentive. Be sure to include safety from defamation, lawsuit, and malpractice in the equation. If you move away from your first associate for any reason, you want to be able to stay in town with a copy of the charts you have written.. To do that, sign no restrictive covenant and insist on due process in peer review, or you may find yourself remaining in town facing peer-review by people biased against you and in charge of the hospital's committees.
